Exchange Rates Setup and Configuration
Keep active Dataverse transaction currencies current with a daily ExchangeRate-API refresh.
What the Add-on Does
RapidStart Exchange Rates updates the exchange rates for active transaction currencies in Microsoft Dataverse. It uses ExchangeRate-API, supports more than 160 currencies, and lets you select the ISO 4217 base currency used by your environment.
Before You Begin
- A Microsoft Dataverse environment with the required transaction currencies enabled.
- An ExchangeRate-API account and API key.
- A licensed user or service account for the add-on's connection references.
- Permission to configure environment variables, connection references, and cloud flows.
1. Install Exchange Rates
Open the RapidStart Exchange Rates listing in Microsoft Marketplace, select Get it now, and install it in the target Dataverse environment.
2. Complete the Setup Wizard
Open RapidStart Settings, select Apps & Add-ons, and choose Configure for Exchange Rates. Complete the four stages shown by the wizard.
Get an ExchangeRate-API Key
Create an account using the ExchangeRate-API signup page, then copy the API key for your account. Review the provider's current plan limits before choosing a plan.
Configure Environment Variables
Enter the ExchangeRate-API key and the ISO 4217 code for your base currency. These values are used by the Refresh Exchange Rates flow.
Configure Connection References
Assign both connection references used by the solution to the licensed user or service account that will run the refresh. Return to the wizard and confirm that both connections are configured.
Turn On the Refresh Flow
Enable Refresh Exchange Rates. The scheduled flow runs daily and updates all active Dataverse transaction currencies relative to the configured base currency.
3. Verify the Setup
- Confirm that the API key and base currency show as configured in the wizard.
- Confirm that both connection references are ready and the Refresh Exchange Rates flow is on.
- Run the flow once and review its run history.
- Verify that active transaction-currency records contain the expected refreshed rates.
Choose the base currency carefully
The base currency must match the currency basis your organization expects. Changing it changes how the provider's rates are applied to active Dataverse currencies.
Setup complete
Exchange rates will refresh daily after the API configuration, connection references, and Refresh Exchange Rates flow are all ready.
