Microsoft Scout is a personal agent for work. It is designed to understand how an individual works across Microsoft 365 and help with activities such as meeting preparation, scheduling conflicts, communications, files, browser tasks and routine work.

RapidClaw is a platform for deploying purpose-built business agents. It is designed to connect AI agents to defined business applications, processes, data and responsibilities inside a customer-controlled Azure environment.

This is not a question of one being better than the other. It is a question of where the agent works, what it understands and the job it has been deployed to perform.

Personal context and business context

Microsoft Scout is centred on the user. Through Microsoft 365, it can understand the person's working context and help them act across the tools they already use.

RapidClaw is centred on a defined business role or process. Its context can include application data, business rules, workflow stages, customer records, transactions, approvals and connected systems.

For example, Scout might help someone prepare for a customer meeting, find relevant correspondence or resolve a scheduling conflict.

A RapidClaw agent might identify a neglected sales deal, prepare an account briefing from CRM data, follow an overdue business process, assist with a Business Central transaction or coordinate work across several connected applications.

These capabilities can be complementary. A personal agent helps the user navigate their work. A business agent helps the organisation operate a specific process.

What Microsoft Scout is designed to do

Microsoft describes Scout as an always-on personal agent for work, built on OpenClaw and Work IQ.

Its strength comes from its proximity to the individual user's working environment. It can use context from Microsoft 365 and operate across files, the browser, shell commands and Microsoft 365 services, subject to its permission controls.

That makes Scout well suited to work that follows the individual across applications:

  • Preparing for meetings
  • Identifying scheduling conflicts
  • Working with files and documents
  • Navigating browser-based tasks
  • Acting on Microsoft 365 information
  • Handling recurring personal work

Scout is designed and delivered by Microsoft, with Microsoft's identity, security, policy and product controls surrounding the underlying agent runtime.

What RapidClaw is designed to do

RapidClaw is intended for organisations that want to deploy agents around a particular business application, role or process.

Rather than beginning with the activities of an individual employee, RapidClaw begins with a job that needs to be performed.

That job might involve:

  • Watching a sales pipeline for stalled deals
  • Preparing customer or account briefings
  • Coordinating follow-up activities
  • Working with RapidStart CRM records
  • Assisting with Business Central processes
  • Monitoring cases, projects or service activity
  • Connecting to external systems through supported APIs or MCP servers
  • Carrying out a defined multi-step business process

RapidClaw provides the surrounding layer needed to deploy, configure and operate those agents in the customer's Azure environment.

Customer-controlled deployment

A central part of the RapidClaw model is deployment into the customer's own Azure environment.

This allows the implementation to be aligned with the customer's requirements for:

  • Azure resources and regional deployment
  • Identity and access
  • Model selection
  • Business data connections
  • Approved tools and MCP servers
  • Agent permissions
  • Usage and consumption controls

This is not presented as inherently better or more secure than Microsoft's approach. Microsoft Scout has its own enterprise security and control model.

The distinction is that RapidClaw is intended to give the customer and its implementation partner direct control over how a specific business-agent solution is assembled and connected.

RapidClaw adds the business implementation layer

OpenClaw provides an agent runtime. Turning that runtime into a dependable business solution requires more than installing software.

RapidClaw is being designed to provide that surrounding implementation layer.

Provision the required Azure resources and configure the services needed to operate the agent.

Agent configuration

Define the agent's purpose, instructions, available tools, permissions, business terminology and operating boundaries.

Business application context

Connect the agent to structured application data and the processes that give that data meaning.

Supported integrations

Connect agents to approved applications, APIs and MCP servers without requiring every customer to assemble the complete architecture independently.

Governance

Control what the agent can access, which actions it can perform, when approval is required and how its activity is managed.

Lifecycle management

Support configuration changes, testing, updates, monitoring and the continued operation of deployed business agents.

Different agents can work together

The emergence of Microsoft Scout does not eliminate the need for purpose-built business agents. It helps clarify the distinction between personal agency and process agency.

An employee could use Scout to organise their day, prepare for a meeting and work across Microsoft 365.

At the same time, a RapidClaw agent could monitor the related customer account, analyse CRM activity, identify missing information and prepare the next business action.

One agent follows the person. The other follows the process.

In many organisations, the most useful future may include both.

A shared OpenClaw ecosystem

Microsoft's decision to build Scout using OpenClaw technology validates OpenClaw as an important foundation for practical AI agents.

Microsoft is applying that foundation to a deeply integrated personal agent for Microsoft 365.

RapidClaw applies the same broader movement to customer-deployed, application-specific business agents.

The result is not necessarily a choice between Scout and RapidClaw. They represent two distinct ways of putting agents to work within the Microsoft ecosystem.

Which approach fits the requirement?

Microsoft Scout may be the natural fit when:

  • The agent should primarily assist an individual user
  • Microsoft 365 is the main source of working context
  • The requirement spans meetings, files, communications and personal tasks
  • The organisation wants a Microsoft-delivered personal agent experience

RapidClaw may be the natural fit when:

  • The agent has a defined business role or operational responsibility
  • The requirement is centred on CRM, ERP or another business application
  • The agent must follow a customer-specific process
  • The solution needs customer-selected connections, tools or models

Is RapidClaw a replacement for Microsoft Scout?

No. Microsoft Scout and RapidClaw are intended for different categories of work. Scout is a personal work agent. RapidClaw is intended for deploying purpose-built agents around business applications and processes.

Is Microsoft Scout built on OpenClaw?

Yes. Microsoft describes Scout as being built on OpenClaw technology and Work IQ, with additional Microsoft identity, policy, security and Microsoft 365 integration.

Does RapidClaw compete with Microsoft 365 Copilot?
