Getting Started

Pay-as-you-go Setup for RapidStart Apps

Connect your Dataverse environment to Azure billing. Microsoft platform usage and RapidStart App subscriptions are separate costs.

Which products this covers

Use this guide for RapidStart CRM, RapidStart Project, and RapidStart Field Service on Dataverse. Microsoft pay-as-you-go does not replace your RapidStart App subscriptions. It is not the hosted RapidStarter plan, and it does not replace Dynamics 365 or Business Central licenses or RapidClaw infrastructure and model charges.

How billing works

Microsoft charges US$10 per active user, per app, per month. Repeat openings of the same app do not add another monthly user charge; opening another app can. Users covered by qualifying Power Apps Premium or Dynamics 365 rights are excluded within those entitlements. Microsoft 365 alone does not license these Dataverse apps. Prepaid app passes are not consumed for apps using pay-as-you-go.

Microsoft meterUS list price (USD)
Power Apps: active user/app/month$10
Dataverse database: additional GB/month$48
Dataverse file: additional GB/month$2.40
Dataverse log: GB/month$12
Monthly usage examplePower Apps charge (USD)
10 billable users open one app$100
5 billable users open one app$50
3 billable users each open two apps$60

Each pay-as-you-go environment includes 1 GB database and 1 GB file storage, not 1 GB per user. There is no included log allowance. Check allocated capacity and enabled meters for actual overages. Examples exclude RapidStart subscriptions, storage, other services, and tax; contract and local prices may differ. Storage can still cost money in a month with no app use.

Before you start

  • Use a production or sandbox environment with Dataverse and the intended RapidStart App installed. New environments must meet current Microsoft capacity requirements; the Developer Plan is not for production.
  • Arrange the RapidStart subscription and user licenses, plus appropriate Power Platform or environment administrator permissions.
  • Use an active Azure subscription in the same tenant and a resource group. Creating resources and registering providers requires suitable Azure permissions, commonly Owner or Contributor, or assistance from your Azure administrator. An existing suitable subscription is sufficient.

Trial or Purchase and Installation · License Management

Create the billing plan

  1. Open Power Platform admin center and select Licensing → Pay-as-you-go plans → New billing plan.
  2. Choose Azure subscription and name the plan.
  3. Select the Azure subscription and resource group.
  4. Under Power Platform products, select Power Apps and review the other products and meters being enabled.
  5. Select Next, choose the environment region and intended environment, then select Save.
  6. Verify the environment is linked. In Power Apps, select the correct environment, open Apps, and inspect the app’s Settings for pay-as-you-go. Review the effect on other apps in the environment.

Share and verify access

In Power Apps, select the app and choose Share. Grant the appropriate app access and Dataverse security roles to users or teams, and assign RapidStart licenses. Billing does not grant data permissions. Test with a normal intended user, not only an administrator.

Monitor spending

Use the billing plan’s usage report in Power Platform admin center and Azure Cost Management. Filter by the plan’s Power Platform account resource. Charges can take up to 24 hours to appear. Monitor database, file, audit-log growth, and separately enabled services. Pay-as-you-go does not automatically provide unlimited request capacity.

Set Azure budgets and alerts. Budget alerts notify you; they do not stop consumption or enforce a spending cap.

Compare licensing options

For regular use of several apps, compare Power Apps Premium: the standard US list price is US$20/user/month, paid yearly. Prepaid per-app availability depends on channel: CSP customers can still purchase it, while other new-customer channels changed in January 2026. The old US$5 example is not a universally available alternative.

Stop pay-as-you-go

Arrange replacement Microsoft licensing first, then remove the environment from its billing plan or delete that plan in Power Platform admin center. Existing charges remain payable. Unlinking does not cancel RapidStart subscriptions.
